Bioactives from Mushroom and Their Application
نویسنده
چکیده
This chapter describes the variety and biomedical potential of mushrooms as well as their bioactive compounds. It starts with a description of the structure, growth, and composition of mushroom fungi. A description of polyssacharides (e.g., b-glucan) and polysaccharide–protein complexes was found in different mushrooms, and their potential medical uses are mentioned. In addition, the immunomodulatory bioactivity of b-glucans is illustrated in this section. Terpene compounds as the largest group of anti-inflammatory compounds in mushrooms are addressed. The importance of phenolic compounds acting as free radical inhibitors, peroxide decomposers, metal inactivators, or oxygen scavengers in biological systems is described. Bioactive proteins and peptides, including lectins, which have no enzymatic activity, as well as those bioactive proteins possessing enzymatic activity such as fungal immunomodulatory proteins, ribosome-inactivating proteins, and laccases, are addressed. Finally, other compounds are able to reduce oxidative stress in the endoplasmic reticulum, demonstrating its potential effect in neurodegenerative diseases, and others showing antidepressant properties are also mentioned.

The α7-nicotinic acetylcholine receptor (α7-nAChR) is a ligand-gated ion channel expressed in different regions of the central nervous system (CNS). The α7-nAChR has been associated with Alzheimer's disease, epilepsy, and schizophrenia, and therefore is extensively studied as a drug target for the treatment of these diseases. Important sources for new compounds in drug discovery are natural ext...

Nutraceuticals, functional food ingredients and dietary supplements are important for health promotion and disease risk reduction. Although a myriad of bioactives are known to render the expected beneficial effects, the mechanisms involved are varied and may work individually or collectively in providing the effects. For example, phenolic compounds are known to act as antioxidants or by mechani...

متن کاملIdentifying and Prioritizing the Ethical Dimensions of Neuromarketing to Attract Actual Customers in the Mushroom and Processing Industries
Background: Neuromarketing ethical issues are debatable from two perspectives: First, the effect that ethics has on consumer behavior through sensory, emotional, and emotional foundations of neuromarketing. Second, there are challenges in using neuromarketing and the need to codify ethical standards. The purpose of this study was to present a model of ethical dimensions of neuromarketing to at...
